BBL Family Law support “Good Divorce Week” 2022!

November 29, 2022

This week marks Resolution’s annual “good divorce week”. The focus this year is on the crisis in the family courts and to raise awareness of the different ways that families and couples can resolve their disputes (where it is appropriate to do so) without seeking recourse to the Courts.

Good divorce week runs from 28 November to 2 December 2022. BBL Family Law will be supporting this year’s awareness week by posting a series of articles about what other options there are available to resolve disputes concerning financial aspects or arrangements for children.

We cannot shy away from the huge delays and backlogs within the family Courts. This is well documented and regularly features in the media. The Courts are overstretched and simply do not have enough resources. Despite best efforts from Court staff, this means that those seeking justice are negatively affected. Those applying to the Courts may be dealing with difficult issues such as trying to secure a child arrangement order to spend time with a child, finalising a divorce or seeking protection from domestic abuse. Waiting months without substantive progress or being told your case is awaiting a hearing date provides no comfort to Court system users.

At BBL Family Law we often discuss with our clients alternative options to Court (where it is appropriate to do so) which include solicitor negotiation, family mediation, family arbitration private FDR, collaborative law and resolving matters direct.

At BBL mediation we also have five trained mediators, so we are able to offer family mediation as a service. Our mediators are also family solicitors who also understand the law as well as being trained in mediation skills. We feel it is important to raise awareness of the options available and are proud to support this year’s campaign. We look forward to sharing our articles with you throughout the week.
