Peter BaughanPeter Baughan

Peter has worked exclusively in family law since qualifying as a solicitor in 1997.

Peter has been involved in an unusually wide range of  family cases.  These days he specialises in helping ordinary families deal with financial cases in a way that is sensible and affordable.  He has a special interest in cases involving family businesses, companies and trusts. A self declared nerd, Peter is determined and analytical and enjoys working with numbers and accounts!

Peter also has wide experience of unusual children cases, including representing children, parents and grandparents, and advising on cases with an international element.  Peter is sympathetic and supportive of his clients but gives realistic, practical advice, and will protect their interests when needed.

Peter was one of the first lawyers in the country to train as a collaborative lawyer and helped found the Good Divorce Group, which now has 50 members.  He is also a family mediator.

Patricia BrodiePatricia Brodie

Patricia Brodie specialises in all aspects of family law and relationship breakdown. She is one of the founding partners of bbl family law.

Patricia is a dedicated and approachable family lawyer and mediator. She is a member of Resolution, and is a trained Resolution collaborative lawyer and accredited Resolution mediator. She became recognised as a Legal Services Commission Mediator in 2000.

Patricia has a wealth of mediation experience and was one of the first Norfolk family lawyers to incorporate family mediation within a solicitors’ practice over ten years ago.

With over eighteen years experience in divorce and family law Patricia has a varied caseload including divorce, maintenance variations, resolving financial issues on breakdown of marriage or relationship, particularly for high net worth individuals and involving family businesses, issues regarding children, including cases which have an international element.

Beverley LongBeverley Long

Beverley has been a family lawyer and mediator in Norfolk for more years than she dares to remember.  She has a wealth of experience of giving practical and sensible legal advice and guidance.  However complex or unusual the divorce or separation, Beverley is known for being determined to find  solutions which are realistic and workable.

Beverley is attuned to the emotional impact of divorce, court proceedings and parenting issues on families, especially children. She is committed to encouraging clients to consider alternative approaches to resolving their disputes which enable them to move forward with their lives in a dignified way.  She is one of the only mediators in Norfolk trained to directly consult with children and young people in mediation.  Her mediation practice also extends to directly involving solicitors in the process.

Beverley is a trained collaborative lawyer and keen to involve other experts and professionals in all disciplines of her work in a way that benefits the client.  She is an active member of the Norfolk Good Divorce Group and organises their annual training day.

When litigation is the only way of helping divorcing couples to resolve their disputes, Beverley remains committed to giving clear and practical advice. She is unfazed by complex financial matters.

Matthew LordMatthew Lord

Matthew qualified as a solicitor in September 2006 and has been part of bbl family law since the firm’s launch in May 2009.

Matthew has a varied experience in dealing with all aspects of family law, including divorce and separation, civil partnership dissolution, financial matters, cohabitation, preparation of pre and post marital agreements, and private law children disputes; including those with an international element.

As a member of Resolution (a national organisation which represents over 5,000 family lawyers), Matthew is committed to resolving cases in a constructive and conciliatory manner by negotiation wherever possible. His careful and considered approach towards dealing with difficult family issues is both efficient and effective.

Matthew is also a committee member and Treasurer to the regional Norfolk Resolution group, as well as being an active volunteer of the Norfolk Community Legal Service initiative providing free legal advice to the community.

Lucy SteeleLucy Steele

Lucy specialises in all aspects of family law with a particular emphasis on the financial implications of relationship breakdown. She has experience of dealing with matters with a cross-jurisdictional element from her previous role working at a niche firm in the North West and advises clients in relation to wealth management and protection issues in the form of pre or post-nuptial and living together agreements.

Lucy also has considerable experience of dealing with cases concerning children, helping clients to resolve the difficult and sensitive issue of where and with whom a child should live in a sensitive manner.  Her expertise also covers issues of child relocation, parental responsibility and child maintenance.

Lucy provides practical and commercial advice to her clients but is known for her sensitive approach.  She cares about her clients and shows compassion and empathy in her work.  As Chair of the local Resolution group and a trained collaborative lawyer, she is dedicated to resolving cases in a constructive and pro-active manner.  She is also an active volunteer and supporter of the Norfolk Community Legal Service initiative providing free legal advice to the community.

Emerald Priscott

Emerald qualified in 2019 and previously worked for Norfolk based firms before joining BBL Family Law in June 2022.

She handles a full spectrum of family matters including divorce, civil partnership dissolution, family finances and separation disputes. Emerald advises unmarried couples on separation in respect of their property rights and regularly deals with arrangements for children.

Emerald was shortlisted for the “Junior Lawyer of the Year 2021” and “The Amanda Owens Family Lawyer of the Year Award” at the Norwich and Norfolk Law Society Excellence Award; the awards celebrate an exceptional standard of work and recognise lawyers who excel in their role.

Emerald is co-secretary and committee member for the Norfolk branch of Resolution. Resolution members are committed to following a non-confrontation approach to family disputes focusing on the needs of the family and particular the children.

Emerald also volunteers for the Citizens Advice Bureau and Norfolk Community Law Service
