Divorce Day – A new year, a new start?

We are frankly slightly bored now of newspaper articles about “divorce day”. The theory is that Christmas is so stressful, people rush off to start divorce proceedings in January (with the first working day in the New Year being the busiest day of the year for divorce lawyers).

This simply isn’t true. Life is far more complicated than that! There are so many variables and it’s too simplistic to join the dots between a difficult Christmas and divorce. Statistically the first quarter of the year sees 25.8% of all divorces issued which is almost exactly what we would expect – there is no dramatic “spike”.

What is true is that New Year is a time for reflection, maybe resolutions, and maybe reassessing where we are with our lives. This can include facing whether your relationship is working, or not.

If you’re not happy in your relationship, think about counselling (either together as a couple, or as an individual, to help you decide what to do).

The other step is to find out what might happen if you did separate. This doesn’t mean you will separate – it simply gives you the information you need to make an informed decision. We offer a one off fixed fee meeting for £100 which provides an hour or so with one of our experienced solicitors – we all specialise in family law, and are all qualified solicitors. Give us a call on 679050 to find out more or to arrange the meeting. The feedback we get from clients is almost always positive – people feel better knowing a bit more about their options, and it helps you make the right decisions for the future.
